'Their lips look like gigantic balloons': 24 Fads That Old Skool Cool Just Can't Get Behind

Every decade has a few fads that are more than just a trend, they're an iconic statement. 

The mullet in the 80s, jelly sandals in the 90s, pencil-thin eyebrows in the 2000s, and over-contouring the makeup on your face in the 2010s. While these are all nostalgic to think of nowadays, when you're living in the moment, trendy trends feel far from timeless and at times, even a little cringe.

Now that we're living in the 20s (if it's not too unsettling to call it that), there seem to be new trends on a daily basis that are more than just cringe, they're insufferable. For old-school souls and the cool kids from back in the day, it seems like the trends now lack a certain je-ne-sais-quoi that fads of the past had. Stanley cups are trendy and popular but soooo impractical. And lifted, ridiculously flashy trucks sort of defeat the purpose of a real working truck. And don't get me started on TikTok! 

With so many new trends emerging every day, you'd think there would be a few decent ideas. Alas, perhaps our modern era just isn't as cool as the vibes from our nostalgic olden days.

  • I'm going to have to second this opinion. While the Marvel universe is hype for so many people, personally I think it's lacking a few essential things that every good story has–like a story, for one. I understand there's a ton of lore in the Marvel universe, but when I'm sitting down to watch a superhero movie, I don't want to have to watch 10 other movies and read 15 comics just to understand the basic plot. 

    Like the Taylor Swift phenomenon, I believe the hype of the Marvel universe (and a lot of superhero genres, in general), is buried in the lore and not the actual entertainment.

But making them trendy with the younger generation and adding dangles and what not and making the colors and releases seem like limited release collectors items was a very interesting phenomenon. Back in my day we had lion king and star wars cups from Burger King. Like a proper society
